We keep hearing about peace from a number of different sources. The world leaders keep speaking about peace. We have peace keepers and peace enforcers. We want peace in one region of the world or another. In one country or another, one state or another, one community or another.
What exactly does peace mean and what to these world leaders mean when the talk about peace?
I take the liberty of using some dictionary definitions of peace
1) Peace is the state prevailing in the absence of war
2) Harmonious relations; freedom from disputes
3) The absence of mental stress or anxiety
4) The general security of public places
5) A treaty to cease hostilities.
Now, does any of these definitions create within you some form of distress as to the fact that the definition of peace is rather abstruse?
Taking for instance the relationship between America and Russia, then by this definition there is no peace between these two nations considering past and present events, their relationship cannot really be described as harmonious can it?
America shut down a number of embassies because of the possibility off terrorist attacks (peace is the state prevailing in the absence of war).Although,no war has really or officially been declared but America is constantly in a state of war, a war of ideologies, philosophies and religious and political beliefs.
We read in the news that drone attacks or strikes killed this person or that person, a leader of this gang or that gang, this cell or that cell, this network or that network yet, it isn't like there is a war going on on a battle field somewhere!. Rather, it is a war on terrorism and the powers that be want to or are trying to terrorize the terrorists into stopping or desisting from their terrorist ways. We are at "peace" but we are fighting terror with terror. We are fighting an ideology with weapons!!!.
Sanctions are raised against nations that want to if possible do what is right for their nationals (...but isn't exactly right for the BIG American corporations) in protecting their natural resources and local markets. Sanctions are slapped on these nations by the powers that be.( Peace = Harmonious relations; freedom from disputes)
Japan and China have their rows, Japan and Korea have their rows, China and the Philippines have their rows, China and India have their rows, India and pakistan have their rows, Australia and Japan have their rows, American and Pakistan have their rows, North Korean versus South Korea, North Korea versus Japan, Israel versus Iran, Israel versus Lebanon, Israel versus Palestine, we can go on and on and on.
On the African continent, it's the same story and probably even worse. Yet all over the world, in all the sacred scriptures, the definition of peace is clear, the dos and don'ts for achieving a peaceful society, community, state, country are all written there but we as humans bend to the will of our selfish alter egos perpetrating evil rather than good whilst claiming that it is for the greater good.Does evil give birth to good?.
Now, regardless of all these actions and situations or circumstances that clearly indicate that there isn't any peace anywhere, our dear world leaders (oblivious of the true meaning or definition of peace) keep flying around on tax payers hard earned cash promotion what I can only refer to as a pseudo-peaceful society, i.e, the appearance of it but absence of the substance of it.
The common man knows what real peace is but he is helpless in bringing about real, true and lasting peace and so it seems all he can do now is throw his hands up in the air and shout "CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?"
Get along for peace sakes I mean!
